2024 Annual Report

The Community Resource Centre

Hybrid working continues but there has been an increase in presence from a number of the teams in the centre and many are now working designated days in the Centre.

We continue to offer a wide range of health service provision: podiatry, Gp practices, practice nurses, CBT therapists, Psychiatrist from Cornhill, midwife, immunisations children and adults (Covid and Flu) retinal screening, physiotherapy, blue badge along with our other health professionals already based in the building.

With this increase in demand for clinic space we were successful in obtaining a national lottery grant to convert a store room into another consulting room space this will be completed by the end of this week.

GYM – Our gym has been busy this year arranging some additional classes to create a more varied timetable of events particularly for the summer months where we have a Saturday morning Boot camp and football camp, we also held a 5k & 10 K rune event at the start of September which generated a lot of interest and will be something that we continue going forward.

Our weekly class timetable now has the addition of seated tai chi for arthritis, gentle seated gym session and even a gentler gym session for those who are a bit more active! We are continuing with the drop-in evening sessions for teens and have just started a fit kid program every Monday after school to get the little ones moving as well!

Our exercise referral scheme continues to be as popular as ever and we recently had a student do an evaluation on it which highlighted the need amongst our community and the benefits that people are getting from it.

MVT initiatives

Resilience Hub

We are still here for you when you need us! Thankfully we have not been needed so far this year but always remain on standby for any future power outages.

Just Ask

Our Just Ask project continues to be used by those families in our communities struggling with the cost of living to date we have supported over 205 families and individuals. We also held a clothes swap event in September to encourage people to engage with the service, many partners attended to offer additional support around, food, energy, transport, information points and benefit advice to name a few.

The Central Buchan Christmas appeal

This appeal will be run once again from the Resource Centre and we will have gift tags out in the community by the beginning of November. Last year we supported over 200 children in our local area. If anyone who can help support this worthwhile cause with donations of new toys then we would be very grateful.

The Listening Ear

This year saw the Trust stepping in to ensure Aberdeenshire communities didn’t lose a very important service. The Listening service as it was previously known was set up in GP practices and community hubs across Aberdeenshire  through NHS GRAMPIAN. The service uses fully trained volunteers to go into these health care settings and give weekly 3 x 50 minutes sessions of listening time to patients. Someone to help you make sense of the situations that we can find ourselves in that can impact negatively on our mental health. However, because the funding was not secured for it, it was in danger of disappearing, the Trust has taken it on with funding support from some rotaries across Aberdeenshire and we currently have 3 listeners working at 4 locations across Aberdeenshire (Alford, Mintlaw, Maud. Banchory) with 1 more starting off in a few weeks’ time (Pitmedden) and 4 more listeners ready to be re start in the very near future.

Mental Health Projects Officer

Jacqui remains in post and continues to find new ways to engage with our communities around better mental wellbeing. Some of the projects she is involved in:

Conversation Café –

The Café continues to run on the 1st Thursday of every month and usually has a guest speaker also provides a great opportunity to get community information out there. Next one is this Thursday.

Line Dancing

Yee ha get those cowboy boots on! Fridays 6-7pm open to everyone and free.

Walking Group

Maud Milers walk club every Wednesday 10-11am

Lego Club

Every Tuesday 3.30-4.30 pm and during the summer we had a morning for the Lego club where they came for the morning and had lunch.

Crochet Club

This is a new addition to our timetabled events and has been very well received particularly by the youngsters and it is great to see young and old working together sharing tips and learning.

Wellbeing Festival

Jacqui came up with an impressive array of activities for the Aberdeenhire Wellbeing festival this year in May. More than any other area and our community got to enjoy some great tasters as did the local school: Sound baths, acupuncture, menopause event, Hollywood boogie, belly dancing, Qu Jong, mindfulness sessions to name a few. We also did our annual pedometer challenge with the children of Maud School and an embroidery workshop trough Aberdeenshire Council to commemorate those that were lost during Covid.

The Community Service Centre

Café –The Café continues to do well; Annette and her team consistently impress with their range of sweet treats and food offers. The Facebook page is a great way to see what you might be missing out on!  The craft workshops Annette has organised have been very popular and we have another wreath making one coming up again very soon.

Christmas is just around the corner! and we will see the return of our popular lunch or breakfast with Santa which always books up very fast!

Well done to all the staff!

Service Centre

All units are currently occupied. It was a sad day in the summer when we lost S&D homes who have aways been great tenants but they have moved to bigger premises which is great for their business and we wish them lots of luck there.  Thankfully we were able to get new tenants immediately and it was with great excitement we welcomed the Buchan community farm shop – it is great to be supporting another amazing charity and also to have a gift shop so near to the cafe. We are hoping that this partnership will see them thrive and raise much needed funds for their charity.

Village in Bloom

Well, who would have thought it?!  The one year that we don’t attend and we only went and did it! Well done Valerie and your team of helpers what a great achievement it’s only taken --- years to get here!

And it was only right after years on their coat tails that we finally knocked Stuartfield of their pedestal!

Well done!

Once again, the Directors and Management of the Maud Village Trust would like to thank staff, customers, users and general supporters of the Trust services for their support.

Thank you for your support

V. Brown – General Manager
