Conversation Café

A free monthly meetup where everyone's welcome for a cuppa, a cake, and good conversation. No agenda, no pressure - just connection.

What is a Conversation Café?

The initial café was set up in Aberdeenshire as part of the Mental Health Foundation's mental health week to support positive mental wellbeing. Since 2014, new Conversation Cafés have begun in other areas in Aberdeenshire - they are about building new connections within your community to support positive wellbeing.

Most importantly, they are open free spaces to engage with other folk.

Conversation Cafés can provide a space for connection, tackle isolation, reduce the mental health stigma, while building confidence and help individuals feel valued as a member of their local community.

Open to Everyone

It has been long recognised that having a chat/conversation is a great way to address issues - mental health or otherwise. To help address this, once a month, we will have speakers, entertainment or activities at these meetings. These are just for fun and informal. The speakers are there to give something back to The Conversation Cafe.

FAQs

Do I need to book?

No - just turn up anytime between 10am and 12pm on the first Thursday of the month.

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free. No charge for refreshments or anything else.

What if I don't know anyone?

That's fine - most people don't know everyone when they first arrive. Our volunteers will make you feel welcome, and you'll soon find people to chat with.

Can I bring my children?

Yes, families are welcome. We're not a supervised creche, but children are welcome to come along with parents.

What if I'm shy or find social situations difficult?

Come anyway. You can sit quietly with a cuppa and just listen if that's more comfortable. There's no pressure to be the life and soul of the party.

Do I have to stay the whole time?

Not at all - stay for five minutes or two hours, whatever works for you.

What happens if I can't make it one month?

No problem - just come the next month. There's no registration or attendance tracking. Turn up when you can.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely - the more the merrier.
