Tattie Holidays Maud Breakfast Clubs 2025

Maud Resource Centre

This year, the Maud Village Trust hosted its first-ever Tattie Holiday Breakfast Clubs, bringing families together for warm food, friendly faces, and a unique chance to meet the local Blue Light teams who serve Maud and Central Buchan. The initiative aimed to strengthen community partnerships, provide vital holiday support, help ease food pressures for families, and offer children a fun and educational experience during the school break. Each child also received a STEM activity booklet to enjoy at home with their family.

The idea came from Brian Simpson, Watch Commander for Peterhead & Maud Scottish Fire & Rescue, who approached the Centre to explore whether we could help deliver a breakfast club similar to successful events held in Peterhead. With poverty and holiday food provision regularly highlighted as local concerns, the partnership was a natural fit. While the fire station did not have the facilities to host the sessions, the strong relationship between the Red Watch crew and the Centre, built through Conversation Cafés and community events, made collaboration easy.

Planning was led by our Community Mental Health Project Officer, Jacqui Gray, working closely with Brian and Centre Manager Vicki Brown. The response from local partners was outstanding. Costcutter New Deer, Morrisons Daily Maud, the New Pitsligo Sharing Larder, the school’s Fun n Food programme, Co-op, and Greenvolt all donated food or supplies, while community champions from Co-op and Greenvolt volunteered their time to help serve breakfasts. Emergency services also turned out in force, with firefighters, a fire engine, local police officers, and a police cell van attending both mornings.

Over two busy sessions, more than 75 people came along. The Centre was full of energy as families enjoyed breakfast together before heading outside to explore the emergency vehicles, often for the very first time. Firefighters and officers took time to chat with children, answer questions, and make the experience welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

Feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive. One parent shared:
“We really enjoyed the Blue Light breakfast club. My children found the experience very educational. My eldest son is autistic, and the time the emergency service personnel took to engage with him was fantastic. A real inclusive community event.”

The Tattie Holiday Breakfast Clubs brought together partners, volunteers, and services to support families in a practical and meaningful way. Most importantly, they created a warm, welcoming space where the community could connect, learn, and feel supported, setting a strong foundation for future holiday activities at the Centre.
